3 weeks ago these two teams met on Brondby stadion and that game finished 1-1 with Brondby scoring an 86th minute equalizer on a penalty. Since then their season has progressed differently with Brondby firing their coach on Thursday as they find themselves in the biggest crisis of the clubs history. Soenderjyske on the other hand has continued where they let off before the break with strong organisation and team spirit.
Sonderjyske
Ruled out: squad not revealed yet
Home game record: 4-2-4
Soenderjyske has drawn 3 of the opening 4 games this season with their only loss coming to league no. 1 FC Copenhagen. In that game they were in it all the way but conceded two goals in a typical loss against the top teams – Soenderjyske played well, didn’t give away that many chances but at the end just came out a little short. Their latest game saw them in a goal less draw against FC Midtjylland. As always Soenderjyske was well organised and fought hard for every possession which have been their trademark. They recently lost their Manager which resigned due to limited financial capabilities in the club but it has not shown on the pitch. The opposite game 3 weeks ago saw Soenderjyske playing one of their best games of the season against a Brondby team heading for disaster. It ended 1-1 but Soenderjyske deserved more. Currently positioned in 10th position with 11 points to the relegation zone, Soenderjyske doesn’t really have that much to play for but with Randers (11th position) winning their last game they can not afford to let too much of their 11 point advantage slip away, with 11 games to play.
Brondby
Ruled out: Thomas Rasmussen, Max von Schlebrügge, Martin Bernburg (doubtfull)
Away game record: 4-1-5
Brondby hit an all time low when they fired coach Kent Nielsen on Thursday following a humiliating 1-3 defeat at home against relegation doomed HB Koge. After an opening 4 games that has resulted in 2 looses and 2 draws, Brondby saw no other option than to fire the coach. It has to be said though that it has been building up for quite a while as Kent Nielsen never really seemed to settle in and the fans has demanded his leave for some time now. With him out of the way they have hired a temporary coach to take them through the rest of the season, Henrik Jensen. Being a former Brondby player he is very well liked in the club and is familiar with the “Brondby spirit”. However his results as a coach has not been convincing as he has been fired from his last 2 jobs due to bad results. There is no doubt that Brondby has a team of players that is way better than their current 7th position. They probably have the 2nd most expensive player squad behind FC Copenhagen so there is plenty of room for improvement within the current selection of players that have performed way below standard.
Conclusion
This is a tricky game as you never know in which condition Brondby will be in. They have only had 2-3 trainings since they fired coach Kent Nielsen so not much can be changed with the players in such short time. They are off course hoping that the change will create new motivation for the players and it is possible that it will. However the slump that they are finding themselves in can not be solved over night and against a strong Soenderjyske team at home, Brondby will get nothing for free. I think that both teams can live with a draw – Soenderjyske preserves their distance to relegation and Brondby gets off to an acceptable start under the new coach. Based on this I recommend to bet on a draw.
